# Joining the City

> Whitelist, queue priority and connecting for the first time.

## 1. Get whitelisted

1. Join the [Discord](https://discord.gg/badtimes).
2. Read the [Rules](/rules) and follow the whitelist steps posted there.
3. Once you have the **Whitelisted** role you can connect.

<Warning>
  You must be in the Discord **while connecting**. The queue checks your roles live — leaving the server drops you from the queue.

## 2. Connect

Open FiveM → **Servers** → search **Bad Times**, or press `F8` and type the connect command from the Discord `#connect` channel.

## 3. The queue

Priority is tied to your Discord roles. Higher tiers skip ahead. Founders, staff and supporters have the highest priority; Whitelisted is the base tier. Priority packages are on the [Store](/store).

## 4. First load

You'll land in character creation. See [Your First Character](/getting-started/first-character).

  Stuck in a loading screen? Wait for the bar to finish, then press `Esc` once. If it's still frozen, restart FiveM — don't spam connect, it resets your queue slot.
